About Denise

Denise Ashmore has owned The Drapery Shoppe, a drapery workroom, for over 22 years. She mainly serves Kitchener-Waterloo but extends her services to Cambridge, Guelph, Oakville, Hamilton, Burlington, Mississauga.

You may already be familiar with her workmanship.Denise is a hidden talent working behind the scenes and works for many well-known decorators and designers. She has been their “go-to” curtain maker for more than a decade, solving design and fabric dilemmas.

Denise has always worked with the designer/decorator to ensure that the interpretation is correct at every stage. Now, she can offer you that direct and personalized service.

Background:

With a fashion design diploma and thirty years of experience with fabrics of all types, there is nothing that fazes her.
Before drapery, she spent time working for sewing upscale custom alterations for Harry Rosen and Rhapsody Bridal. She then started with Stan West Interiors ( formerly known as The Home Fashion Market, Almira Furniture Gallery) in St Jacobs. There she managed the in-house drapery workroom. When Stan West Interiors changed locations to the Market, Denise opened her first retail location in Uptown Waterloo.

After which, opening her very own storefront at Weber & Bridgeport in Kitchener. During that period she was the workroom, at one time or another, for most of the local drapery businesses. Blinds R Us, Five Green Apples, Linda Hilts, The Home Fashion Market, Sears, and Aubergine Interiors to name a few.
She was then hired as the general manager of Nu Look Blinds. This was during their window covering showroom days when they manufactured blinds and custom drapery.

Teaching:

She’s worked with a full range of textiles from the sheerest silks to the toughest leathers. This knowledge led her to a teaching position at Conestoga College in their new decorator program. There she designed and taught a window treatment course for two years.

Today, she continues to build her drapery store: The Drapery Shoppe in her Kitchener-based workroom. She’s excited to now offer her services to the public.
